Job summary

We are looking for Mental Health Nurses, both experienced or newly qualified to join our inpatient services on our adult acute, PICU and older persons wards at St James' Hospital in Portsmouth.

Working in Portsmouth offers a diverse inner-city client base where your role will be working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, advocating for patients, and supporting colleagues in providing high standards of care and safety.

You will care for your patients holistically, involving carers and relatives and work alongside medical and therapies staff. You will be able to adapt quickly to changing situations and provide high quality care to your patients. We are keen to have staff working for us who are passionate about patient care and who are keen to be actively involved in service development.

Main duties of the job

We're passionate about providing you with opportunities to develop and have a wide range of therapies and treatments to train in to continue your learning, which can also be transferable across all other areas of Mental Health. The working world has changed but our ability to provide quality care to the communities of Portsmouth has only improved! With plenty of profession specific training, leadership opportunities, new ways of working such as virtual consultants and consistently delivering exceptional care by the right professional at the right time.

Our shift patterns over a 24-hour period and we have 3 shift patterns: early -- 07:00-15:00, Late- 13:30-21:30, Night- 21:00-07:30 over a 7 day period so flexibility is key. We want the best for you so you can deliver the best quality care to our patients.

  • Fulfil the role of Named Nurse, thus co-ordinating and participating in holistic Care and Treatment Plans for a defined group of service users, working within the Care Programme Approach Framework.
  • Assess patient needs and provide care plans.
  • Ensure continuing monitoring and review of care and treatment plans with relevant member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Identify and work closely with the Community Care Co-ordinator/Community Mental Health Team on admission through to discharge for service users requiring community follow-up.

  • Ensure that service users have their rights to privacy and dignity maintained at all times and ensure that equality and diversity needs are met.
  • Assist in increasing client's knowledge and understanding of their mental health issues, involving them in their care decisions.
