Job summary

Southampton CAMHS are looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurse to work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team which delivers high quality interventions to children, young people and their families presenting with a range of mental health difficulties, with dedicated time for working in our eating disorder service.

The successful applicant will be working alongside the lead Consultant Psychiatrist, nurses, therapists, and support workers to deliver bespoke care packages according to need. This will include a combination of clinic work and home visiting as well as building strong relationships with local tier 4 providers to ensure consistency of care for those young people requiring periods of hospital admission.

The CAMHS team is a strong and supportive team and has excellent structures to offer regular supervision. *To liaise with the young person's professional network, keeping them informed of developments, changes in risk status and promoting multi agency collaboration. Liaison with Children's Specialist Services, Educational services, independent sector mental health providers, counsellors and any other professionals.

*To involve the young person, and where appropriate, their families/carers in delivering programmes of care.

Clinical and Professional

The post holder will provide specialist assessment and treatment through a clinic and community-based care approach with young people with an eating disorder.

The post holder will ensure both the physical and psychological well-being of the service users are maintained through a range of physical health interventions.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

*To care co-ordinate and manage a defined caseload of children and young people and their families and carers.

*To co-ordinate and deliver individualised care packages / programmes for service users and their families and evaluate these programmes, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with national guidelines and trust policy.

*To develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with service users and their families/carers.

*To liaise with the young person's professional network, keeping them informed of developments, changes in risk status and promoting multi agency collaboration. Liaison with Children's Specialist Services, Educational services, independent sector mental health providers, counsellors and any other professionals.

*To involve the young person, and where appropriate, their families/carers in delivering programmes of care.

*To be able to assess and manage high-risk adolescent clients in a variety of settings, conducting risk assessments and formulating safety plans.

*To take part in the emergency duty rota, conducting a holistic nursing assessment and developing risk management plans in collaboration with service users and families.

*To effectively and appropriately communicate these risks often under difficult, highly charged and emotional circumstances to medical staff, other professionals and families involved in the care of the YP.

*To act as an autonomous practitioner with an understanding of own limitations and recognition of when to seek support.

*To play an active role in promoting mental health and well-being in young people and their families/carers.

*To take responsibility for the organisation and facilitation of multi-agency meetings. E.g. CPA Meetings, professional meetings, Clinical team discussions.

*To provide expertise and highly specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals, contributing directly to family treatment plans.

*To oversee the provision of highly specialist learning re input into the placements of trainees and a range of professions

*To manage referrals and to assess the needs of referred child and family, develop implement and evaluate appropriate interventions.

*To contribute to highly specialist child psychiatric perspective in team clinical management discussions.

*To attend Case Conferences, Core Group Meetings, TAC's and other relevant meetings as required.

*To work and sit in constrained positions for substantial periods of time during interviewing and therapy sessions.

*To ensure children, young people and their carers/significant others are included in planning implantation and evaluation of care.

*To ensure that care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.

To have analytical and judgement skills to consider the wider implications of decisions made in regards to clients care, taking into account the young person's developmental stage.

*To be able to demonstrate the ability to make appropriate decisions under pressure taking into consideration the risks to clients, self and others and to be able to assess the often complex situations of these clients and their families within the context of their social environment. Understanding risk and resilience as well as protective factors.
