Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join a successful MHST team. This intensive training post will equip the post holder to provide cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) to children, young people, and parents with a range of complex mental health problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post- holder will work in the service for 3 days of the week using the newly developed skills whilst attending the training programme for the other two days. The role will be predominately clinical working alongside a small team of high Intensity workers. The role will ensure delivery of high quality, safe and responsive treatment for low to moderate mental health presentations, as per the MHST criteria. You will work alongside Education Mental Health Practitioners, High Intensity CBT Therapists and Child Development Practitioners to deliver CBT treatment.
Southampton has 4 Mental Health Support Teams and almost have city-wide coverage for its schools and colleges, where the teams will work within education settings to provide early intervention for mild to moderate mental health issues and provide help to staff in schools and colleges. Teams will also act as a link with local children and young people's mental health services.
Main duties of the job
Main duties include:
To understand CYP IAPT principles, evidence-based interventions and routine outcome measures.
*To manage a caseload of children and young people presenting with mental health presentations such as anxiety and low mood.
*To deliver individual care packages to children and families
*To provide specialist knowledge and advice in consultation/assessment
*To plan and facilitate therapeutic intervention including group work and parent led work alongside colleagues.
*To be able to assess and manage risk in children and young people and to do this on an on-going basis within the role as care co-ordinator.
*To communicate risks effectively and appropriately to other professionals and families.
*To participate in supervision.
*To meaningfully use Routine Outcome Measures.
*To contribute to consultation with Southampton Schools.
*Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies (e.g., BPS, BABCP), and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g., NHS plan, National Service Framework, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).
