Job summary
Solent NHS Trust are currently looking to recruit two apprentices to undertake an apprenticeship in dental decontamination.
The successful candidate will need to be motivated to be a self-directed learner, supported through the apprenticeship programme with one day a week study on the programme. You will need English and Maths at GCSE (A-C or 4-9) or Functional skills Level 2 as a minimum to be considered for this opportunity.
The service culture is one where learning and reflective practice are valued with regular group and individual supervision in place to support this. You will be fully supported to make the transition to this role and to develop your knowledge and skills in this exciting opportunity.

Main duties of the job
In the role you will provide effective and efficient decontamination and sterilisation of re-usable medical devices for use in direct patient care, required by the dental surgeries in line with the dental service standard operating procedures, the Department of Health quality standards and DOH HTM01-05.
- Receiving and cleaning of contaminated equipment, inspection, testing, assembly, packing, sterilization of instruments and equipment for supply to surgeries.
- Perform Daily, Weekly and monthly tests on the decontamination equipment such as Sterilisers, Thermal Disinfectors and the maintenance of the dental hand pieces in line with Manufactures Instruction and DOH HTM 01-05.
- Labelling, dating and stock rotating of sets of instruments.
- Disposal of clinical and other waste.
- To be responsible for and professionally manage the receipt, processing and delivery of all relevant clinical, surgical devices and equipment.
- Ensure and comply with EEC medical devices directive, MRHA alerts.
