This opportunity provides a 4-year apprenticeship programme with either a mechanical or electrical primary bias, graduating at NVQ 3 level with supporting BTEC certification. Upon completion you will achieve estate specialist technician competencies in a multi-disciplinary maintenance role with skills and knowledge transferrable across the entire NHS.

Solent NHS Trust are working collaboratively with Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust to recruit two apprentices working across either of their sites. Please indicate in your personal statement whether you have a preference of which Trust you would like to be considered for. Applicants will be interviewed jointly by Solent NHS Trust and Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and a decision regarding work base will be made upon successful application and interview.
Main duties of the job
To carry out a maintenance, repair and minor installation role within a hospital environment across the Solent NHS Trust/Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust estate covering The County of Hampshire. The post holder is expected to work using own initiative within local and legislative guidelines/procedures seeking advice from line manager and outside agencies when appropriate.
Maintain/test/repair/fault find and certificate highly diverse and complex range of mechanical equipment/systems and buildings across the Trust's sites
Interpret environmental conditions and ensure health and safety and relevant legislation is adhered to. Seek assistance from line manager when appropriate
To understand the workings of buildings, engineering services and systems in NHS/Trust premises ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner

Upon completion you will be awarded a Level 3 Healthcare Engineering Apprenticeship.
A criterion of the apprenticeship is that you attend college/virtual and complete all the necessary standards set out in the apprenticeship.
You will be employed on a fixed term contract for 4 years the duration of your apprenticeship.
On completion of your apprenticeship, you will need to partake in the recruitment process within Solent to secure a position.
End of Year competencies to be achieved in line with those detailed in Learner Booklet provided by the training provider.
Below is the personal specification for entry to this apprenticeship and attached to the Job description and personal specification for fully qualified Healthcare Engineer.
Main Duties:
To undertake planned preventative maintenance, reactive maintenance and emergency works in relation to the mechanical installations across the estate. Use all skills, experience and knowledge ensuring safe working methods to carry out maintenance tasks in the most cost-effective way for the Trust
To understand the workings of buildings, engineering services and systems in NHS/Trust premises ensuring that they are maintained to a high standard and that all plant and equipment are utilised in a safe and efficient manner
To carry out work in a timely manner as requested using the agreed works CAFM system and ensuring that any associated information is recorded and where necessary referred back to the Business Administration team
Identify and provide information to the line management team regarding parts and solutions required to remediate situations within the limitations of the job description
To work as part of a departmental team and where necessary support colleagues of all levels and disciplines as required
To attend training courses in order to keep up to date with current legislation as directed by the Maintenance Department
To be able to work safely in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, current healthcare guidance and to follow any other safety policies as issued by the Trust
