Student Specialist Childrens Community Nurse (SPQ CCN)

Job summary

An exciting opportunity for development has arisen with Solent NHS Trust for a registered Children's Nurse to undertake the Specialist Practice Qualification in Children's Community Nursing (SPQ CCN).

The fully funded SPQ course runs over a year full time at Level 7 (MSc) or Level 6 (BSc) at the University of Surrey. You will work within the Southampton or Portsmouth CCN team to achieve competencies to become a CCN Specialist Practitioner. We are looking for qualified Children's Nurses who have a keen interest and understanding in how the CCN service is instrumental to the care of Children and Young People. Modules undertaken will include Physical Health Assessment and History Taking, V100 Prescribing, Safeguarding, Research, Leadership and Management, Policy and Mental Health.

Upon completion of the year, you will either have a Bsc academic qualification, or if studied at Masters level, will complete the course with a PGdip, with the option to undertake a dissertation to achieve the full MSc.

The course will commence September 2023 (Date TBC).

This position is open to both internal and external applicants. Successful external applicants will undertake the course on a fixed term contract and internal applicants will be placed onto a secondment for the year and upon completion of the course will return to their substantive post.

Main duties of the job

As an adult learner you must be motivated, resilient, and passionate about delivering excellent and evidence-based care to Children and Young People within a community setting. You will be well supported throughout the year with an Academic Assessor, Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor, with regular supervision and opportunity to address learning needs.

You will be able to demonstrate:

An awareness of current health policy which shapes community care and service delivery.

Good organisational skills to balance university attendance, placement, independent learning and assignments.

Excellent communication skills and be confident in multi-disciplinary working.

Solid assessment skills.

A passion for learning and linking theory to practice.

A strong ability to reflect on practice.

  • A minimum of a 2:2 in a relevant UK honours degree.
  • Valid Driving Licence. Successful candidates will be required to drive to Surrey University (Guildford) and to Practice in Southampton and West Hampshire Area and therefore require a valid driving licence and business insurance.
