Job summary

Join our supportive and innovative child and adolescent mental health service (CAMHS) based in Portsmouth. The aim of this service is to support a child/young person in continuing with their mental health recovery at home with their families with the right support and most importantly the least restrictive.

As a Mental Health Practitioner, you will be part of the wider CAMHS multi-disciplinary team delivering specialist mental health support for children and young people and their parents/carers.

All young people who are accepted to the service will follow a structured programme, in line with relevant NICE guidelines (for example anorexia nervosa, depression, anxiety, emotional dysregulation). Interventions are delivered by a multi-disciplinary clinical team comprising of: Consultant Psychiatrist, Psychologists, Nurses, Social Worker, Dietitian, Family Therapist, Assistant Psychologists and Managerial Support.

The CAMHS team is a strong and supportive team and has excellent structures to offer regular supervision and support. This is a great opportunity to join our team in Solent NHS Trust Children & Families Service line to support in the delivery of high-quality children's mental health services. Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist assessments of clients referred to the team.
  • Formulate and implement plans for the formal treatment &/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options considering both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, or group
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment, and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by care plans
  • Contribute directly and indirectly to the understanding & care of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.

Essential

  • Nationally recognised core qualification. e.g RMN, Social work, AHP, creative therapy, or ACP accredited.
  • Highly specialist knowledge and application of CAMHS therapeutic interventions and its effective application to the mental health problems of children and young people with complex needs.

  • Nationally recognised core qualification at degree or above, at first degree level or equivalating.

Experience

  • Experience of assessment/intervention with children, young people and families within CAMHS community and/or inpatient units.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse, and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision.
