Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Neuropsychologist to join a large, dynamic Neuropsychology service.The neuropsychology service provides neurorehabilitation to adults with neuropsychological difficulties following acquired brain injuries such as TBI, stroke, anoxia or infections across the neurorehabilitation pathway.

In the role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Solent Neuropsychology (West) service which includes providing leadership and supervision to the other clinical psychologists in the team and ensuring that the Neuropsychology service runs effectively and efficiently. You will be fully responsible for your own clinical case load as well as overseeing the clinical work of other clinical psychologists within the team and managing the triage and allocation of referrals into the service.

This is a great opportunity to show your sound decision making about service development and implementing change within the service.

We will provide supervision from the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and regular departmental CPD.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide specialist neuropsychological assessments of clients referred to the team based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care
  • Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options, considering both theoretical & therapeutic models and complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family, or group
  • Exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based care plans

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist
  • Post-doctoral training in Neuropsychology recognised by the BPS (QICN or equivalent)
  • On BPS Division of Neuropsychology Specialist register of Clinical Neuropsychology
  • Formal training in supervision of other psychologists or equivalent experience

Experience

  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, presenting with the full range of clinical severity across a range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care and in-patient settings.
  • Experience of working with neurological conditions.
  • Experience of exercising clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment within the context of a multidisciplinary care plan
  • Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision

Desirable

  • Experience of representing psychology within the context of multi-disciplinary care
  • Experience of managing staff
