Job summary

Solent NHS Trust's Adult Mental Health Acute Care Pathway includes two inpatient wards (Acute and Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit) and a Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHT). The Acute Care Pathway consists of multi-professional teams including Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists and Occupational Therapists. The Acute Care Pathway works closely with other mental health and community services to support people to recover from mental health illness through brief intervention and/or referral to other services.

The Acute Care Pathway is looking to recruit either a Band 6 Specialist Occupational Therapist or a Band 5 Occupational Therapist as a development post in to a Band 6. Occupational Therapy is recognised as having an essential and core role within the multi-disciplinary team and is at the forefront of developing recovery and therapeutic interventions. The successful applicant will be managed by the Allied Health Professional Team Lead and work with other Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physiotherapists and Activity Coordinators.

Main duties of the job

*The successful applicant will be responsible for a caseload of patients experiencing mental health illness; providing person centred assessments and interventions using evidence-based models of practice. They will have responsibility for formulating intervention plans and supporting junior staff to deliver interventions to patients with complex needs in their own homes and communities.

*The post holder is responsible for the provision of a high-quality Occupational Therapy (OT) service, ensuring that the service delivered meets Trust and professional standards and develops in line with Government, Clinical, Professional, and local guidelines.

*Delivering occupational focused assessment, formulations, and interventions for a caseload of patients with complex functional needs at hospital, in their homes and communities.

*To deputise for OT Lead and provide cover for the other team members as necessary.

*To be responsible for supporting, developing, and evaluating an evidence-based therapeutic group programme.

*To be a key resource in facilitating the patients journey through mental health clinical pathways within acute, primary, and secondary care. This will involve supporting patients in their homes and communities to prevent an avoidable hospital admission, and to work with patients in hospital to ensure safe, effective, efficient, and recovery focused discharge.
