Are you interested in earning a wage whilst training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification to become a Pharmacy Technician?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for two fixed term Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technicians (PTPTs) to join the pharmacy department at Solent NHS Trust based at St. Marys Community Health Campus in Portsmouth

Full educational support is provided, but you will need to learn quickly new IT systems and embrace new technology to provide safe and effective care to patients.

You will need to be highly committed to achieve the qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency programme.

20% of your time will be spent gaining vocational experience and completing competencies required to complete the Level 3 apprenticeship. Your training will involve working with an educational supervisor to develop a work-based portfolio, undertaking work-based assessments and completing all assignments/projects.

Trainees who successfully complete the fixed term two year training programme, complete an e-portfolio and the end point assessment (EPA) will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council and be able to practice as a registered Pharmacy Technician.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to service delivery on a flexible working basis which may in future include weekends and bank holidays.

Main duties of the job

You will need to demonstrate excellent work/life/study balance skills and be very self-motivated.

*Accurately dispense and produce labels for prescriptions and controlled drugs for both in and outpatients of the hospital and associate peripheral units. Meet legal and professional requirements and standards of the GPhC and agreed Solent timeframes.

*Complete the relevant dispensed item checking competencies within the apprenticeship programme, including final accuracy checking of prescriptions

*Tailor individual supplies for patients to assist concordance and increase patient safety.

*Check in and correctly store medicinal items.

*Obtain and record information for medicines reconciliation, liaise with other professionals where required and provide a medicines management service on wards.

*Assist in providing a clinical trial service.

*Take corrective action in the event of a near miss or deviation within the limits of responsibility.

*Understand how to report adverse clinical incidents through the Trust risk management system.

  • Candidates must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent at Grade C/4 or above and must include Maths, English Language and Science (Double Science award or two individual Sciences e.g. biology, chemistry, physics).
  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Pharmacy Service skills
  • Certificates will need to be provided prior to interview stage in order to be verified.
  • Candidates must also meet the eligibility criteria for Apprenticeships.

Experience

Essential

  • IM&T qualification or experience in the workplace
  • Evidence of team working

Desirable

  • Experience of stock management
  • Evidence of recent study & self-development
