Job summary
The Medical Education Department ensures the effective delivery and robust quality management of education and training for around 1,800 Resident Doctors, comprising both doctors in training and locally employed doctors, across all specialties within the Trust.
The post holder will help deliver and quality manage teaching for residents across all specialties, including skills training for Foundation doctors and IMGs. The role also involves supporting clinical examinations, contributing to quality improvement activity, and helping to develop innovative educational resources, with opportunities for professional development in medical education.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a team of two Postgraduate Clinical Teaching Fellows (Medical or Surgical).
This post will offer excellent organisational and direct teaching experience, along with the opportunity to work towards a qualification in Medical Education.
This role is suitable for doctors at post ST1 level or LED equivalent, including those interested in gaining educational experience ahead of future training applications.
There are currently two Postgraduate Clinical Teaching Fellow positions available within Postgraduate Medical Education.
*1 August 2026 (based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital)
*1 x August 2026 (based at Heartlands Hospital)
Positions are offered on a 12month fixed term contract, full time (40hrs per week), working 08:30am until 17:00pm (with a 30min break) -- Monday to Friday
This post is primarily education focused, with a small clinical component (approximately 6% clinical time, equivalent to 15 days per year).
Successful postholder for each position will however be required to travel to any of the University Hospital Birmingham sites, to ensure the needs of the service are met.
