Job summary

Are you an experienced nurse looking to step into a leadership role and further develop your clinical and managerial skills? An exciting 12-month secondment has become available for a motivated & dynamic Band 6 within our busy and diverse EPOC at Solihull.

As a Band 6, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day coordination of the EPOC area.

You'll work closely with the Theatre's, Wards, Senior Nursing Team, Anaesthetic and Surgical teams to ensure smooth, safe, and effective patient care. You'll also support the delivery of high clinical standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Leadership:

*Act as Nurse in Charge, coordinating daily activity, patient flow & staffing

*Ensure safe staffing levels & appropriate skill mix

*Provide visible leadership & deliver high standards of clinical care

Advanced Post-Op PT Care:

*Oversee assessment, planning & delivery of care for patients requiring enhanced monitoring

*Support management of complex/high-acuity patients

*Recognise/escalate patient deterioration in a timely manner

Patient Safety:

*Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to clinical standards, policies & learning to improve outcomes

MDT Working:

*Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists, critical care teams, & AHPs

*Participate in MDT rounds & contribute to decision-making

Workforce Management:

*Supervise, mentor and support nursing staff, students & CWS

*Conduct appraisals and support performance & professional development

*Identify training needs & contribute to staff education

Operational & Service Management:

*Support day-to-day management & organisation of the unit

*Contribute to service development, policy implementation & improvement

*Ensure effective use of staffing, equipment & bed capacity

Clinical Governance & Audit:

*Participate in audit, research & quality improvement initiatives

*Ensure compliance with local/national standards & guidelines

Communication & PT Experience:

*Communicate clearly & compassionately with patients & families

*Promote a positive patient experience & support enhanced recovery pathways
