Job summary

Introduction

University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) is seeking an enthusiastic and team-orientated Consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine (GIM) to join the department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB). This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a high-performing, research-active, and collaborative Gastroenterology service that benefits from close partnership with specialist teams at QEHB. We welcome applicants with a broad Gastroenterology skillset, and especially those who can contribute a sub-specialist interest that complements the department (e.g. luminal inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), advanced endoscopy in upper or lower GI medicine, intestinal ultrasound and capsule endoscopy).

About the Service

The Gastroenterology department at QEHB delivers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, including general gastroenterology, complex IBD, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, and intestinal failure. QEHB has fully JAG-accredited endoscopy suite. The appointee will work closely with multidisciplinary medical and surgical colleagues, nursing teams, allied health professionals. The appointee will be part of a supportive environment grounded in teamwork, respect, continuous improvement and reflecting the UHB values (Kind, Connected, Bold).

Main duties of the job

This post comprises a combination of:

*Outpatient clinics

*Endoscopy sessions

*Contribution to the Gastroenterology inpatients (Ward 302)

*Contribution to the Gastroenterology inpatient triage service

*Participation in MDTs- relevant to experience

*Advice & guidance to primary care

*Support for trainees, and specialist nurses

*General Internal Medicine (GIM)

*Participation in the GI bleed rota - relevant to experience

*Participation in the elective endoscopy weekend, department direction towards 7-day elective endoscopy working on mutual discussion
