Band 6 Rotational Physiotherapist (MSK/T+O)

Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Physiotherapist to join our rotational scheme between inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) and Musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatients at Good Hope Hospital. This role is a rotational post between the 2 areas where the rotations will be for a duration of 6 months.

The candidate will start by spending 6 months working in MSK. They will gain experience treating a range of acute and chronic conditions, hydrotherapy, and working as part of the arthroplasty pathway delivering classes.

The candidate will then rotate to the inpatient T&O team who provide acute inpatient therapy for a variable caseload including (but not limited to) elective primary TKR/THR, complex revision arthroplasty, acute trauma including spinal fracture management, NOF rehab, and older people's rehabilitation.

During this rotation there will be an expectation to contribute to the extended day service which covers day surgery. This runs until 8pm daily. Staff work staggered starts covering 12-8 on their designated days. There is also a requirement to contribute to the respiratory on-call rota during this time.

The candidate will then continue to rotate between these teams on a 6 monthly basis.

Face to face interviews will be conducted at Good Hope Hospital on Wednesday 18th March. TEAMs interviews are not going to be considered due a practical element to the assessment.

Main duties of the job

*To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to MSK out-patients and inpatient Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O) within University Hospitals Birmingham at Good Hope Hospital, incorporating extended hours over 6/7 day working patterns

*To hold responsibility for own outpatient MSK case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

*To hold responsibility for own inpatient T&O caseload, providing physiotherapeutic assessment, management, and treatment of a range of orthopaedic patients. This will include injuries from trauma, elective surgery, and day case surgery, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

*To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

*To contribute to T&O evening day case rota, and respiratory on-call rota across the organisation.

*To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.
