Job summary

CONSULTANT IN SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH

8.0 PA post

Applications are invited to apply for a consultant post in Reproduction and Sexual Health.

The sexual health service (branded as Umbrella) provides an integrated sexual health service to the entire population of Birmingham and Solihull. The main hub is based at the purpose-built Whittall Street Clinic in Birmingham and there are seven satellite clinics locations across Birmingham and Solihull. The service deals with approximately 100,000 patient episodes per annum.

The post includes expanding partnership work with pharmacies, post-natal services, and other community partners, and developing the CSRH digital strategy working on EPR development, informatics, intranet and extranet content.

This post provides an opportunity to join an established and proactive consultant team to respond to the needs of our growing service. Applicants must be either on, or eligible for entry on, the GMC specialist register for Community Sexual and Reproductive Health.

Applicants must be on the GMC register and hold a licence to practise.

Main duties of the job

Skills / Experience

Ability to lead multidisciplinary services in the provision of contraceptive and sexual health care.

Provision and counselling of all methods of contraception

Complex contraception and provision of complex coil and implant clinics

STI screening

Broad experience of community gynaecology provision

Experienced in delivering training within primary care.

Experience of, and commitment to participation in, clinical governance

Experience of conducting audit projects

Demonstrate leadership skills.

Able to communicate effectively, in good English, verbally. and in writing.

Work as part of a team and good relationship with colleagues.

Provision of a complex and high-quality service in all aspects of contraception and sexual health, STI diagnosis and management, Genito-urinary medicine presentations, including syphilis, genital and pelvic pain syndromes, genital dermatology and HIV diagnosis.

Adoption and maintenance of best practice guidelines as offered by FSRH, RCOG, BASHH, BHIVA and NICE, and continuing to enhance service profile and engagement with local, regional and national colleagues, groups and networks.

Counselling and provision of all methods of contraception. Provision of a complex and deep implant service and a complex LARC service is part of this job role.

Assessment and supervision of post-exposure prophylaxis (PEPSE) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV infection, provision and management.

Provision of specialist clinical services dependant on service needs and the skills and interests of the individual.

Counselling for TOP and appropriate referral.

Provision of clinical advice and support when requested by other primary, secondary and tertiary care services and actively contribute to MDTs.

Maintain clinical skills and professional accreditation, to include meeting the CPD requirements of the Faculty of Sexual Health and Reproductive Healthcare and the appropriate Royal College.

Maintain accurate and legible records of clinical work and to use IT as appropriate.

Complete administrative duties relating to patients care such as dictating letters; reviewing the results of investigations and acting upon abnormal results; dealing with clinical incidents and complaints

Involvement in teaching and training of GPs, Umbrella pharmacists and partners, and other specialities is an expected part of this role.

Educational supervisor and clinical supervision of CSRH trainees within the department. Clinical supervision of other trainees within the department.

To be involved in the teaching of DFSRH and LoC trainees, medical students and other health professionals.

Provide teaching, advice, support and supervision of nurses undergoing training for patient group directives (PGDs) and nurse prescribing.
