Job summary
Are you a hands-on professional with a background in mechanical engineering or building services? Join our Estates team as a Mechanical Assistant and play a vital role in maintaining and improving our hospital infrastructure.
In this role, you'll carry out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and assist with engineering tasks across the Trust. You'll work both independently and alongside skilled colleagues, ensuring safety and compliance with national standards. From using diagnostic tools to supporting commissioning and testing of equipment, your work will directly contribute to a safe and efficient healthcare environment.
Main duties of the job
Carry out routine maintenance and minor repairs across the Trust's estate, working independently or as part of a team.
Assist with engineering tasks and support qualified tradespeople on new installations and repair work.
Operate safely in potentially hazardous environments, following all relevant health and safety regulations.
Participate in planned preventative maintenance programmes and complete associated documentation.
Use diagnostic tools and precision instruments to test and inspect equipment, ensuring compliance with British Standards and Trust policies.
Support commissioning and testing of new equipment and services.
Operate equipment such as forklift trucks and abrasive wheels (training provided if required).
Maintain accurate records and report faults, incidents, or deviations to supervisors.
Undertake duties in the engineering stores, including use of a computerised stock control system.
Be available for overtime and emergency call-outs, carrying Trust communication devices when on duty.
