Job summary
The post holder, under the guidance of the Lead Theatre Emergency Department Practitioner is responsible for ensuring the holistic assessment, planning and implementation of patient care within the Queen Elizabeth Emergency Department.
The Emergency Department Practitioner is a skilled professional with a key role that contributes to the Major Trauma service within the Department. The post holder will work primarily work with the acutely unwell patient within the Department alongside Nursing and Medical Teams carrying out rapid assessment of a wide range of patient conditions. The post holder will be required to work under pressure and still ensure high standards of safe, professional and effective care whilst promoting evidence-based practice. They will assist in the implementation of the Trust Clinical Governance agenda within the ED setting, ensuring compliance with all policies, procedures, guidelines and the implementation of human resource policies to ensure effective personnel management.
The post holder will support and encourage the concept of team working, team development and collaboration between team members.
Main duties of the job
*The post holder will be professionally accountable for the maintenance of standards and professional practice as set by the HCPC/NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour and/or Health and Care Professionals Council Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics and other relevant professional guidelines.
*They will regularly take charge of the Resuscitation Area and take responsibility for ensuring the coordination and direct provision of high standard of holistic, patient centred care by assessing nursing care, peri-operative care and health education needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for each patient.
*To be designated to act as a deputy to the person holding continuing responsibility for the organisation and management of the Emergency Department.
*To demonstrate and facilitate others to develop the necessary skills and experience in the Resuscitation Area management and provide leadership in the absence of the Lead Theatre Practitioner.
*Use a range of techniques to set and monitor standards of clinical practice, audit, research and teaching to continually improve standards of care and patient experience.
*To support the development and implementation of audit, quality and risk management initiatives.

- *Operating Department Practitioner on the HCPC Register
- *Registered Nurse with a post registration course in anaesthetics/airway management and on NMC register
- *Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC/HCPC

- *Substantial post registration experience working in either an Operating and/or Emergency Department
- *Recent experience in RSI
- *Substantial experience supervising / mentoring junior staff
