Head and Neck Fellow (August 2026)

Job summary

This post is an opportunity to join the ENT department at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust for an established advanced fellowship in head and neck surgery.

The 12 month post is suitable for trainees who have completed their ENT training and are seeking a superb opportunity to receive further sub-specialist training to extend their experience, prior to commencing a consultant position in head and neck surgery. The post will commence in August 2026.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, working with a team of nine ENT and four Maxillofacial Consultant head and neck surgeons. The head and neck group provide secondary care to Birmingham and tertiary services to the wider West Midlands population. The fellow will be exposed to multidisciplinary team working in a variety of clinic and theatre settings, including all aspects of head and neck surgery (benign and malignant), as well as advanced thyroid and parathyroid surgery and transoral robotic surgery.

The fellow will also be expected to participate in research, in keeping with the strong academic profile of the department and Institute of Head and Neck Studies and Education at the University of Birmingham.

Applicants are expected to have obtained the FRCS ORL-HNS (or equivalent) and hold or about to be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (or equivalent) in Otolaryngology.

The post holder will have a formal monthly meeting with a supervisor to monitor progress and to ensure appropriate support and opportunities are being given. The post holder will also be allocated sessions for CPD for research and audit activities.
