Job summary

An opportunity has risen for a Special School Nurse who is both dynamic and motivated to join our small team of nurses providing care to children with moderate to severe learning disabilities and some with added complex health needs across the special schools in Solihull. We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, hard working Children's Nurse with or without a learning disability nurse qualification who will work as a team but will also be lone working at times.

This service is integrated with the Solihull Children's Community Nursing Team and Solihull Learning Disability Nursing Team and has a close working relationship with Solihull Community Paediatrics medical and therapy Services.

We are looking for a compassionate Children's Nurse to support with the co-ordination, provision and progression of this service. We are part of a wider multi-professional team that work together to support children and young people to maximize their potential and achieve positive outcomes.

Main duties of the job

This role is a 12-month fixed term contract for 31 hours per week term time only.

Applicants must hold a full current UK driving licence and have regular access to their own car to travel between schools.

*Ideally you will have experience in caring with this client group and have the robust clinical skills to support their care in school

*You will be expected to enhance provision for children with medical needs by advising educational staff on care plans and appropriate medical provision.

*You will be expected to deliver health educational programs both independently and along side other members of the team

*You will be responsible for ensuring that the appropriate health care plans are in place for children with specific health requirements and providing appropriate training to education staff

*You will work with current school medical services and families to ensure clarity of medical provision and communication

*You will be expected to attend Multidisciplinary team meetings and Safeguarding meetings

*Yow will be expected to keep all clinical and safeguarding records up to date and in line with NMC guidelines

*You will need to have excellent communication and managerial skills, an excellent sense of humour and be enthusiastic and willing to embrace new ways of working

The team operates from 08.30 -16.30 hours Monday to Friday and is term time only.
