University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

Band 4 Therapy Support Worker

The closing date is 14 August 2025

Job summary

Are you a compassionate, caring, and considerate person? Are you looking for a sense of achievement in your job? If yes, then our Team at Heartlands Hospital want to hear from you.

Our Team is involved in an exciting opportunity to be part of a national study assessing the effect of increased ward-based therapy following hip surgery.

This is a 12-month post. The successful candidate will be trained specifically to work with existing staff to deliver education to the wider team and additional rehabilitation to the patients.

This will incorporate identifying eligible patients and inviting them to participate in the study, completing data collection, and provision of activities and therapy treatment during the participant's in-patient stay on the acute hip fracture ward.

Applicants will need to have comprehensive experience as a Band 3 OT/PT or generic therapy support worker. You will work collaboratively with Physiotherapists, OTs and fellow therapy support workers across inpatient T&O wards.

The trust is committed to providing a 7-day service. Applicants will need to be able to participate in a 7-day working rota, including working weekends. Therapy is provided until 8pm Monday-Friday, so the role will also include extended hours working.

The Trust is a multi-site organisation, you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites, and you may need to change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis as a result of reorganisation of Trust services.

Main duties of the job

The post will combine competencies from physiotherapy and occupational therapy disciplines. You will work with patients providing rehabilitation activities, education, resources and planning for discharge, ensuring they have the correct equipment.

You will work with the therapy team to provide education to the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Your responsibilities will be varied and challenging -- however, being able to multitask in an efficient manner whilst maintaining a caring and helpful attitude underpins everything we do to make a difference to your team and the patients. You will require good IT skills.

The role will build on existing Band 3 skills to take on an increased level of responsibility. Working autonomously under the supervision of registered therapists for an agreed caseload, having excellent communication and organisational skills and being confident to make judgements unaided. You will be able to work proactively to problem solve and work on your own initiative.

As part of this invaluable Team, you will be a reliable and committed candidate who will help ensure we are continually adhering to our Trust values of Kind Connected and Bold. We are confident we can offer you not just your next job but your next career.

You can expect a starting salary of 27,484 along with a public sector pension, 27 days annual leave (rising with service and with the new option to buy and sell leave each year)
