Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) in Respiratory Medicine based at QEHB, commencing as soon as possible.

The Respiratory Medicine group at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is staffed with sixteen consultants, five deanery specialist training registrars, two clinical lecturers and one international fellowship trainee.

Main duties of the job

Respiratory inpatient service covers two wards (515 and 516) each with 36 beds. There are regular consultant ward rounds and board rounds. We also participate in general internal medicine on call rota and our trainees participate in acute medicine rota. Both wards have a full host of respiratory acute and subacute presentations and trainees get excellent experience in managing respiratory emergencies. A dedicated acute NIV service helps managing patients with hypercapnoic respiratory failure.

We have a whole variety of sub speciality opportunities and a number of tertiary care clinics available for trainees to get exposure to; including Severe and Brittle asthma, Interstitial lung disease, lung transplant, sarcoidosis, pleural, sleep, respiratory failure, COPD, lung cancer, TB and general respiratory clinics. The department runs twice weekly EBUS/bronchoscopy lists, weekly trans-bronchial biopsy / flexible bronchoscopy list, fortnightly medical thoracoscopy list and weekly pleural clinic. There is a weekly departmental teaching session, weekly radiology meeting and weekly lung cancer MDT as well. On periodic basis, we also hold fungal and NTM MDTs. Queen Elizabeth Hospital has a state of the art physiology department offering whole host of respiratory physiology testing. A variety of specialist nurses support various clinics as well.

  • *Full GMC registration.
  • *Successful completion of Core Medical Training (or equivalent).
  • *Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
