Job summary

Primarily the role is concerned with delivering training in the deteriorating patient, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillation (AED) to all grades of staff across all specialties. In addition the post holder will have responsibilities, in quality assurance, clinical and training equipment provision and maintenance.

Main duties of the job

Teaching adult and paediatric clinical life support (CLS) / Automated external defibrillation (AED) skills at all the hospital sites and community sites.

Participate in and support quality assurance and audit activities within the trust including, but not limited too, resuscitation trolleys, Recommended summary plan for Emergency Care and treatment (ReSPECT), and DNACPR, training compliance and the National Cardiac Arrest Audit (NCAA).

Act as a point of contact for emergency equipment related issues.

Assist with life support course coordination and preparing & setting up equipment.

Support trust wide provision of cardiac arrest equipment.

Be available to provide resuscitation related clinical advice, and support, as appropriate.

  • *NMC or HCPC registrant who can demonstrate continued CPD e.g. Registered Nurse, Midwife, ODP, Paramedic.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous / recent experience of working in an acute care setting (e.g ED, AMU, CCU)
  • Competent in Basic level Life Support (BLS) and use of an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Experience of practical application of resuscitation in hospital setting; delivering high quality CPR
  • Ability to participate with the implementation of change, assist with and improving standards.

Desirable

  • Involvement in audit
  • Incident reporting and investigations
  • Teaching resuscitation skills
  • Teaching experience
  • Ongoing experience of practical application of resuscitation in an acute setting; delivering high quality CPR.

Additional Criteria

  • Demonstrate achievement of numeracy (including drug administration calculations) and literacy skills.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team
  • IT knowledge & computer literacy (Word, Power Point, Excel, Teams and SharePoint)
  • Knowledge of the use of clinical resuscitation equipment
  • Understanding and have knowledge of the relevant governing bodies code of conduct.
  • Work as part of a team but able to work independently when required
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for the subject required to teach
  • Good personal time management skills
  • Ability to fulfil travel requirements of post
  • Able to manage time effectively to carry out cross site working on a regular basis.
