Job summary

University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest Trusts in the country. This exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technologist with experience at a senior level to manage, lead and shape the Nuclear Medicine services provided across the Trust. The post holder will have management duties across the comprehensive Nuclear Medicine, PET and radionuclide therapy services provided. This includes the 4 Nuclear Medicine sites (including a specialist paediatric service) and the PET centre. Working together with others you will oversee and manage operational and strategic matters for the technical team and service provision.

With plans in the pipeline for a new PET centre (est 2026-7) and recent expansion of the Radiopharmacy and Radionuclide therapy teams this year this is an exciting time to help shape the future of this service. The department already has a Veriton 64 slice CZT camera alongside 5 other SPECT-CT systems. This includes the new Siemens ProSpecta system. Our on-site Radiopharmacy produces isotopes for both NM and PET.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the operational management of Nuclear Medicine Clinical services across the Trust and at nearby Birmingham Children's Hospital. You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and have significant experience in both managing services and staff. You will work together with other senior staff to ensure there is consistent and standardized service delivery across the sites. You will oversee responsibility for the organisation of routine work (ensuring KPIs are met) and be familiar in planning and implementing service developments. Together with other key staff across the department you will input into strategic plans for the service including workforce plans, major equipment changes and other big service changes. You will oversee the recruitment and selection processes for the Technical and support team and work together with others to ensure that the training needs of staff are met. You will be required to attend a number of management meetings at both Departmental and Divisional Level with the ability to provide both written and oral reports when required. The successful applicant will be expected to maintain some clinical duties including the dispensing and administration of radioactive materials; acquisition of images, analysis and calculation of results and disposal of radioactive waste material when needed.
