Job summary

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and forward-thinking GP looking for a new challenge. Ideally, they should currently work in a Primary Care setting, demonstrating evidence of MDT working with the responsibility for the delivery of acute and chronic, and experience of face-to-face and telephone consultations. Desirable experience would include clinical governance and teaching.

The post is part time, and forms part of University Hospitals Birmingham, Out of Hospital services. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small and friendly practice in Selly Oak Health Centre and we would welcome GP with special interests.

The Role:

6--8 sessions per week, job share considered if needed

Designated professional / study leave

We serve a patient population of approximately 7000 patients in a diverse community. The current team includes 1 Clinical Service Lead, 3 General Practitioners, and a practice nursing team which includes 1 Advanced Nurse Practitioner. We also have a comprehensive list of Advanced Roles in the practice such as Social Prescriber, Paramedic and Pharmacists along with a full, established and supportive administration team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing their patient case load and provide high standards of care as laid out by the GMC. As a member of the Trust, we will require all staff members to engage in Trust business, attend regular governance, clinical and practice meetings and take part in practice business, contributing to audits, safeguarding and palliative meetings.

An understanding of General Practice

*Understanding of pharmaceutical practices and prescribing methods

*Understanding of psychology and Mental Health needs

*Counselling skills including activity listening and non-judgemental approach to patients

*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written, verbal and particularly listening

*A clear understanding of professional responsibility and accountability

*Good clinical skills in assessment, diagnosis and management of acute Primary care presentations

*To be thorough and focus on attention to detail

*To be able to accept criticism and work well under pressure

*Ability to remain calm under pressure

*Excellent IT skills and understanding of patient administrative systems

*Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate

*In general practice the post-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care
