Job summary

Are you interested in Respiratory Physiotherapy? This exciting rotational opportunity is in the Respiratory Team as part of UHB. The specialist services at the trust include acute Non-Invasive Ventilation & Respiratory Support Units, regional Cystic Fibrosis centre, Home Mechanical Ventilation service including Paediatric Transition and Neuromuscular service, the Birmingham Regional Severe Asthma Service and Critical Care. As a member of the team, you will work as part of a 7-day service covering all specialities.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated, innovative physiotherapists with good clinical skills and experience; excellent team working and time management skills. You will work alongside specialist physiotherapists and MDT members, providing respiratory care and rehabilitation to patients. You will have the opportunity to supervise Physiotherapy students, junior Physiotherapists and Therapy Support Workers. Research and CPD opportunities are encouraged.

This rotational role is based at Birmingham Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals, however, as the Trust is a multi-site organisation you may be required to work at any of the Trust sites and change your normal place of work, either temporarily or on a permanent basis due to development or reorganisation of Trust services.

Applicants will participate in the respiratory overnight on-call service and 7-day working services.

Main duties of the job

To hold responsibility for own case load and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working without direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review, case conferences. Access to advice and support from senior physiotherapists is available if required, clinical work is not routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records.

To assist with supervision, education and assessment of the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification.

To assist with the supervision, education and co-ordination of physiotherapy assistants, physiotherapy technical instructors and junior physiotherapists.
