Job summary

We have an exciting post in our oncology dietetic team, working across Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospital sites. We are made up of a supportive team of experienced oncology dietitians and will help a new post holder to transition into the role. We are contained within a wider department of friendly and supportive dietitians.

This is a full-time, 12-month fixed-term post, however part-time hours and flexible working will be considered. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is keen to improve patient outcomes in oncology. This would be an ideal opportunity for an experienced dietitian to gain specialist skills and experience in this clinical area. We actively encourage CPD and training, and we are very supportive of research and service improvement.

The post holder will work with adult patients with any cancer diagnoses, both curative and palliative, including upper GI, ENT, gynae-oncology and hepatobiliary. You will work closely with oncology consultants, specialist nurses and other MDT members.

You must be able to manage and prioritise a demanding, complex case load. You will be required to supervise junior staff members and students. Applicants must be able to meet the travel requirements of the post as work across all hospital sites will be required. The post holder will be required to work Monday to Friday and will also contribute to the provision of 7-day therapy services at UHB.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a team, managing a varied caseload across Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull sites. The caseload includes both medical and surgical specialities within oncology such as upper gastrointestinal, head and neck, hepato-pancreato-biliary, gynaecology-oncology and many more.

Your role will include

*Specialist care of oncology patients for inpatients and outpatients of all tumour sites

* Supervision of junior staff and students

*Day-to-day provision of the nutrition and dietetic service for oncology patients

*Outpatient oncology dietetic clinics

*Covering consultant-led surgical oncology clinics (upper GI and/or head and neck)

*Joint AHP/CNS clinics

*Covering a variety of oncology inpatients across sites

*Working as part of a team of Macmillan dietitians and the wider dietetic department

*Work closely as a integral member of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a holistic approach to patient care

*Promoting dietetics and the role of the dietitian in oncology

*Carrying out audits/service evaluation projects

*Undertaking CPD to develop skills/expertise and providing CPD for the wider department.
