Job summary
To provide specialist clinical scientific audiological input to the Hearing Implant Programme, including pre- and post-operative assessments, intra-operative monitoring, programming of cochlear implants, clinical decision-making regarding suitability for implantation and rehabilitation and documentation of individual patients' progress.
To contribute to a research-driven, evidence-based service, developing and implementing models of good practice outlined in the BCIG Quality Standards for Cochlear implantation.
Main duties of the job
To communicate effectively with patients with severe to profound hearing loss. To perform assessments of hearing and speech perception in severe to profoundly deaf adults as part of the process of selection for cochlear implantation, with a high degree of independence. To perform regular re-programming of sound processors and to make independent clinical decisions about programming options based upon knowledge of the patient, including different speech processing strategies. To monitor performance of CI patients via independent selection and performance of measures of implant benefit post-operatively. Undertake line management responsibilities and to take a lead role within departmental research.

- *Education to A-Level or equivalent.
- *BSc or Equivalent in Audiology
- *MSc Audiology or equivalent experience at M-Level
- *Appropriate Certificate to Practice in Audiology
- *Registered Clinical scientist or Clinical Physiologist HCPC, RCCP or AHCS registered in appropriate Modality
- *Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to include ability to communicate with the hearing impaired and patients with dementia, and specialist patient group.
- *Ability to cope with occasional exposure to highly distressing and emotional circumstances
- *Excellent written communication skills
- *Able to work alone as well as in a team
- *Excellent communication skills in a learning environment
- *Able to relate to patients and carers of all ages.
- *English language speaker
- *Excellent presentation skills
- *Ability to negotiate effectively across clinical and academic sectors
- *Punctual and reliable
