Job summary

Do you have the desire to work in Critical Care and Surgical setting?

We seek a passionate Occupational Therapist who can support the continued provision of high quality, patient centred therapy service across our Regional Vascular Surgery Centre at Heartlands Hospital and Critical Care units.

The surgical wards cover Vascular, Colorectal, urology, ENT and General Surgery

The Critical Care units across Heartlands and Good Hope Hospital sites, support acutely unwell patients with Medical, Surgical and Respiratory and Neurological conditions.

We are currently developing a Surgical Pathway for patients from critical care to discharge. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about service development and understands the impact of Occupational therapy interventions on a patient's quality of life.

You will be provided with regular supervision, appraisal and clinical development and opportunities for both internal and external CPD in both Surgery and Critical Care settings.

You will be expected to contribute to a seven day working and Bank Holiday service within therapies.

Main duties of the job

To perform specialist functional assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions.

To hold responsibility for assessing patients quickly when referred, working without direct supervision.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner and maintain associated records. To assist with supervision, education and co-ordination of generic therapy assistants, therapy technical instructors and junior therapists. Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and teams clinical practice. Make recommendations to clinical lead/manager of service for changes to practice by the team. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to service protocols

You will have specific skills in specialist seating & positioning, with a broad understanding of the cognitive impact to patients, applying specialist assessment skills as required. Training and development opportunities will be available.

You will be provided with regular supervision, appraisal and clinical development and opportunities for both internal and external CPD in both Surgery and Critical Care settings.

  • *A specialist knowledge across a range of OT treatments, routine and non-routine, requiring expertise within the field of occupational therapy
  • *An ability to cope with a range of complex options, finds solutions, analyse, compare and decide on appropriate course of action.
  • *Understanding of current legislation and application to OT
