Job summary

Following further expansion of our Medical Retina service across University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust an exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, dynamic experienced ophthalmic nurse or AHP to join our team.

The successful candidate will become one of our medical retina practitioners and extend their ophthalmic knowledge and skills. The role involves working in the intravitreal injection service administering treatment and alongside Ophthalmology Consultants in the delivery of medical retina care across the Trust.

This role is only open to staff who have a recognised governing body. Applicants must provide a registration number to proceed on the completion of their application.

Main duties of the job

Post holder will be professionally accountable maintaining of standards and professional practice set by Trust Policies/Procedures/ professional guidelines, NMC / General Optical Council / British and Irish Orthoptic Society / Health and Care Professions Council.

Maintain portfolio of evidence of clinical skills, competency associated with the speciality, works to an agreed job plan.

Provide expert evidenced -- based specialist assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and discharge of patients within the appropriate sup-speciality service. Be a point of contact for assessment, information and advice for patients, families, and carers; and to staff involved in the care of patients.

Contribute to practice development through auditing, reviewing, updating, development of clinical guidelines/ procedure and policy, support analysis of data relating to patient outcomes and experience supporting quality and safety assurance processes, informing service improvement development.

Support professional development through supervision, assessment, and role modelling; function as a facilitator, supervisor, and mentor to teach other staff.

Monitor clinical practice standards, audit, research, and teaching to continually improve care and patient experience.

Ensure safe and effective clinical practice to enhance the patient's' experience whilst delivering organisational objectives.

Undertake training when required supporting service needs such as post-operative cataract assessments.
