Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham Foundation Trust (UHB) is recruiting a 12m clinical fellow for Haematology, to join their dynamic team. The successful post holder will join an innovative team of Consultant Haematologists, to deliver a general haematology and non-malignant service in one of the largest trusts in the UK.
The successful appointee will deliver haemostasis, thrombosis and non-malignant haematology sub-specialist clinical care, offering expertise and care to patients from across the West Midlands region. The scope of work would also include immunohaematology and obstetric haematology.
UHB's haematology service delivers tertiary specialised services include regional Comprehensive Haemophilia Centre including provision of gene therapy, TTP, specialist integrated haematological malignancy diagnostic service (siHMDS), Level 3 & 4 stem cell transplantation, CAR-T cell therapy, teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, apheresis/plasma exchange and a nationally recognised active academic programme. Inpatient care is based at the QEHB site, which has 60+ inpatient beds and there is an additional dedicated Young Persons Unit for TYA cancer care.
Main duties of the job
The site specialist interests will be agreed on acceptance of the post, but will require expertise in haemostasis, and thrombosis and other areas of non malignant haematology as outlined above.
Clinical
The appointee should be able to demonstrate experience and specific interest in the management of patients with thrombosis and bleeding disorders ITP and TTP. The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop disease specific areas of interest, working alongside the current team.
Inpatients
The appointee will participate in the attending and on-call rota , supported by and working with clinical team's trust-wide. They will be responsible for reviewing inpatients and providing specialist liaison advice.
Outpatients
The appointee will be expected to participate in 3-4 clinics per week, predominantly dealing with haemostasis and thrombosis, alongside some general haematology. The delivery of outpatient activity will include opportunities to support clinical trial recruitment and PI roles within the department. There is an active research portfolio within non-cancer haematology including commercial and investigational medicinal product studies.
There will be the integrated HCT weekly multidisciplinary team clinical and laboratory meeting, plus monthly quality meetings, educational sessions, journal clubs and mortality and morbidity meetings.
For the ward attending commitments, the appointee will be expected to provide reciprocal cover for periods of leave.
