Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and passionate individual to lead our team of renal technologists. Our department is responsible for maintaining dialysis machines and water purification plants which together form an essential life sustaining therapy for our dialysis patients.

The Chief Technologist is responsible for promoting the vision and values of University Hospitals Birmingham, leading by example and ensuring that they demonstrate those values in their leadership behaviours and how we support our teams and deliver our services.

The Chief Technologist has overall responsibility for the efficient running of the technical and specialist activities of the department. The post holder will be expected to work to a high level of skill and resolve complex technical issues on a broad range of Renal medical equipment. The Chief Technologist will take a pro-active approach to develop and improve the service and meet the specialties objectives.

The work will be varied and could be in any one of our treatment areas including the Heartlands & Solihull Hospital sites, at Castle Vale & Runcorn Road Dialysis Satellite sites or at any one of our home haemodialysis patients' houses. There may also be a requirement to support the Queen Elizabeth site as and when required.

The Chief Technologist will be responsible for all aspects of operational performance, maintaining quality standards and for ensuring the implementation and maintenance of good governance arrangements.

Main duties of the job

The Chief Technologist is responsible for delivering the Trust's Strategy, within their area of responsibility, incorporating the following:

*Ensuring the standardisation of services across all relevant sites to the best possible level, so that all of our patients experience equally high quality care;

*Lead on the planning, development and delivery of multi-site services to ensure that there is a common understanding of capacity and demand with clear operational plans to deliver the best in care;

*Leading the development of a sustainable workforce that is fit for the future within their area of responsibility;

Applicants will be working as part of the technical team to carry-out repairs, servicing and calibrations on a full range of Haemodialysis machines, individual water treatment systems, water treatment plant and associated medical equipment used within the renal environment, in line with the manufacturers' recommendations and guidelines.

The post holder will be required to participate in the departmental out-of-hours On-Call rota and hold a full Category B driving licence.
