Job summary

The Emergency Department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is a fast paced and dynamic department. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated compassionate individuals to join our team to work in conjunction with the wider hospital team to deliver a high standard of care to all our patients.

We are looking for kind, highly motivated individuals with a passion to provide excellent patient centred care to those admitted following an emergency. Your role will see you working hands-on alongside nurses, doctors and other team members to provide outstanding emergency care

This post provides the opportunity to learn and develop additional clinical skills to work in the fast paced areas of the department such as triage and majors B. The individual will need to be motivated and act as a role model delivering high standards of care, supporting new initiatives and continuously striving to achieve an outstanding Emergency department.

The emergency department continues to grow and morph into the Emergency Department of the future and with your help we will continue to be a centre of excellence.

Main duties of the job

Applicants should, as a minimum, have current experience as a healthcare assistant within an acute hospital setting. Phlebotomy is a required skill as this makes up an important part of the role. However, in addition, Emergency Care Technicians are expected to routinely record observations and ECGs, assist with wound closure and plastering, and assist patients with all activities of daily living as required.

Desirable

  • *GCSE or equivalent to Level 2 Functional Skills Maths & English

Experience

  • *Experience of recent working in an acute hospital / provider led healthcare environment as an Health Care Support Worker
  • *Evidence of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
  • *Experience of carrying out assigned duties after training and using initiative
  • *Competent in a range of clinical skills and practices relevant to the scope of practice required
  • *Understanding of the principles of safeguarding and Mental Capacity
  • *Awareness of Health and Safety issues
  • *Has knowledge in relation to the parameters and scope of practice in which the post holder should work and when to seek advice and support of others
