We have full and part-time positions available; shift patterns include days and nights over a seven day period. Staff are required to work across the paediatric service at Heartlands & Good Hope Hospital.

This role will enable you to develop your knowledge and skills in children's healthcare, learn to work within a highly skilled professional team and open potential career pathways for you within the children's nursing speciality.

Main duties of the job

Children and young people accessing our services have a variety of healthcare requirements.

We have a high number of patients admitted with an acute illness and also a large cohort of patients who have a chronic illness. Our team also support children who have vulnerabilities, safeguarding requirements and mental health needs. Meeting the holistic, individualised needs of all the children is an essential part of a healthcare worker role.

As a Health Care Assistant within our team you will participate in providing nursing care to all patients requiring assessment, observation, admission or elective care.

Your responsibilities include communicating effectively and confidently with your colleagues, children, young people and their families whilst demonstrating empathy and compassion.

Delivering personal hygiene cares whilst respecting dignity and assisting children with essential fluid and dietary needs. You will learn to record observations on an electronic platform and work collaboratively with the nursing team to escalate concerns and identify deterioration early.

You may be required to complete nursing documentation therefore you must have the ability to enter written information accurately and clearly.

We have a specialist paediatric education team that will support you to achieve your potential.
