Job summary
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust currently have multiple openings for full-time consultant positions within the plastic surgery consultant body, for both substantive and locum positions. We are particularly looking for consultants with experience in the following sub-specialities. Please specify clearly in your application which post(s) you are applying for:
-Breast Reconstruction Surgery (including DIEP surgery),
-Skin Oncoplastic Surgery (trunk and extremity),
Job Plans will Include:
*Outpatient clinic sessions
*One to two MDT meetings per week
*Theatre sessions including independent Oncoplastic and reconstructive work and joint operating with Breast Surgeons
*Ward rounds and on-call services
*Recruiting to and being Principal Investigator for Clinical Trials
*Teaching undergraduate and postgraduate
*Clinical & Educational Supervisor duties
*Audit
The successful applicant will be on the Plastic Surgery On call rota at University Hospital Birmingham, the major trauma centre in the West Midlands. The On call commitments are one in ten weeks, where the post holder will be managing Plastic Surgery emergencies including microsurgical lower limb reconstruction and work closely with Orthopaedic colleagues.

Main duties of the job
The post holders will be working independently and collaboratively with consultants and teams in Plastic Surgery and other specialities at Solihull Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The successful applicants will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching and support juniors with projects leading to publications and presentations. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trust study leave policy.
The On call duties are one in ten at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The post holders will be expected to participate in MDTs and departmental consultant meetings and partake in audits, quality improvement projects and clinical governance, as well as continuing professional development.
