The Research Application Support (RAS) Team supports our researchers in obtaining funding to pursue groundbreaking research that has a profound impact both locally and nationally. As our team continues to expand, we are looking for a committed and motivated individual with a research background to join our friendly and pro-active team as a Junior Research Grant Officer.

The Junior Research Grant Officer will play a pivotal role in supporting our researchers throughout the grant application process. The individual will provide support for a variety of study types, including clinical trials and healthcare data research projects involving UHBFT staff, patients, samples, data or our facilities. This position involves identifying funding opportunities, assisting with proposal development, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines, completing costing tools and managing post-award processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong attention to detail, analytical skills, excellent communication skills, and a genuine enthusiasm for supporting research initiatives.

The position is a developmental role, starting at Band 5. The successful individual will undertake a comprehensive 12-month training programme, complete a competency framework, and, upon successful completion, progress to a Band 6 Research Grant Officer role.

Main duties of the job

The Junior Research Grant Officer will:

*Identify and disseminate funding opportunities from a variety of sources, including NIHR, UKRI and Charities.

*Identify and signpost to key service support departments and infrastructure teams.

*Assist researchers in the preparation and submission of grant applications, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and internal processes.

*Provide advice on proposal development, budgeting, and project planning to maximise the chances of funding success.

*Coordinate with various service support departments (e.g. pharmacy, imaging) to gather necessary information and costs for grant applications.

*Facilitate letters of support and sign-off for applications where UHBFT are the lead NHS Trust.

It is essential that candidates have a background in research, preferably with a solid understanding and experience in clinical research delivery. You should be familiar with the UK funding research landscape and comfortable working with a diverse group of researchers and teams across complex organisations. We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive individual who can thrive under pressure and manage a high volume of deadlines.

Candidates should have the ability to convey complex information to a range of stakeholders in a clear and engaging manner. Additionally, you must have excellent IT skills, including a high level of proficiency in the MS Office Suite (especially Excel), and enjoy the challenge of working in a fast-paced, dynamic department.
