Job summary

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Band 4 Medical Secretary to join our secretarial team within the Trauma & Orthopaedic Department at QEHB. This post requires an individual who is resilient and adaptable and is able to work in a fast paced, professional environment.

The successful candidate will provide secretarial support to our department, working as part of a team and on a one to one basis with your named consultant(s). You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our patients are actively monitored and supported throughout their patient pathway.

You should possess the following;

- good communication skills

- good organisational skills.

- work well as part of a team as well as being able to work from your own initiative

- good understanding of the RTT pathway

- experience of working to deadlines

- audio-typing skills

- AMSPAR / good understanding of medical terminology

- previous administrative experience

- MS office

- experience of waiting list management

The post is full time (37.5 hours) working across five days (Monday to Friday).

Main duties of the job

This is not an exhaustive list;

- answering queries from patients / consultants / external agencies

- waiting list management

- RTT patient pathway management

- dealing with consultant queries

- managing multiple email inboxes

- requesting imaging from external hospitals

- audio typing

- ad-hoc requests

- providing cover for colleagues

- working as a team to meet the operational needs of the team

- managing your workload and conflicting priorities

- action incoming / outgoing post
