Job summary
We are advertising 2 posts for the Urology Department based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. One is a permanent post and the other is a 12 month fixed term post.
The post holder will provide a comprehensive and efficient secretarial service to the Urology Team at QEHB. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times. The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for all service users. The post holder will be responsible for the day to day training and supervision of other secretaries/clerical support workers.
Main duties of the job
The ideal candidate will provide a complete confidential general secretarial service for the department/team. They will provide and receive complex information daily and will need to exercise initiative and judgement based on acquired knowledge and experience when dealing with enquiries of a clinical and non-clinical nature.
You will be expected to provide day to day supervision/training to secretaries/clerical officers, allocating and monitoring work.
You will be required to sort, distribute and prioritise incoming mail, using judgement and experience to take urgent action and which may be passed directly to other areas for action and information. You will also be required to carry out any other secretarial duties including faxing, photocopying, emailing, ordering stationery, maintaining and arranging repair of office equipment where necessary and to provide reciprocal cover for the secretarial team during annual leave and sickness absence.
