Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Training Lead to join our busy, friendly team to work in our progressive laboratories. The post holder will be based in the Cellular Pathology Department, within Laboratory Medicine which is situated across the four main sites of UHB i.e. QEHB, BHH, GHH and SH.

The post holder will have responsibility for the implementation, support delivery and maintenance of the training and competency assessment system across the department, including the support of personnel undertaking professional or academic development programmes. Such initiatives are deemed necessary to achieve and maintain compliance with UKAS, relevant ISO, HTA and Safety Regulations including workforce development to help business continuity. They shall have a vital role in the maintenance of training status for professional training with the IBMS. It is envisaged that this role will constitute 80 per cent of the post holder's time. 20 per cent of the time will be based in the laboratory enabling the individual to maintain their training and competency as required for statutory registration. The post holder will hold or be working towards a training qualification such as the IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Training.

Main duties of the job

The post is expected to provide leadership, advice, and direction to staff and users on matters relating to practice, education, training, and competency. The post holder will develop in collaboration with relevant experts, discipline and role specific training and competency plans for scientific, technical and support roles of all grades within the department, inclusive of those on Honorary Contract.

The department is undergoing several major tranformations with Digital Pathology , a new Managed Service Contract, and the integration of a new LIMS system. The training lead is expected to be highly involved in the implementation of these projects.

This is a cross-site role involving the participation and organisation of Cellular Pathology laboratories at Heartlands, QE, Good Hope and Solihull sites. The post holder will be required to train and motivate staff to deliver a high quality consistent diagnostic service. To coordinate training for all approved personnel, working towards a professional or academic qualification from within and external to the Trust. The postoholder is excpected to ensure effective staff rotation throughout the department as a function of individual training requirements.

The postholder will manage and ensure records of training and competency assessment for all members of staff are maintained to a high level.
