Job summary

The University Hospital Birmingham Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a consultant surgeon

in neurosurgery. The post is for a neurosurgeon who is fully competent in neurosurgery.

Candidates must demonstrate that they can work within a multidisciplinary team. Evidence of an

active research and an educational interest will be beneficial. Experience with specialist innovative

cranial surgery practices, including neuro trauma, skull reconstruction / pathology and

neuromodulation implant techniques will be advantageous.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at the Neurosurgery department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.

The successful candidate will be fully involved in neurosurgical services and will participate as a

leading member of the multidisciplinary team for the assessment, management and follow up of

patients with neurosurgery conditions (cranial). The appointed candidate will be expected to

perform on- call emergency and urgent neurosurgical work and participate in the neurotrauma

service.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in a 1:9 on-call rota to provide cover for

cranial neurosurgery. On call activity includes emergency lists, ward rounds and external

emergency referrals as part of the emergency service.

The main scheduled department activities are listed below, and the appointee's job plan will

include these as part as part of a 10 PA job plan. The successful candidate will be involved in

undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and will be encouraged to participate in clinical

research.
