Job summary
Pathology require an experienced forward thinking 8a Tissue Services Operations Manager, with excellent quality management, organisation and communication skills to manage UHB Tissue Services. The post holder will support clinical users predominantly at the QE site with the management of stock for human transplant. They will manage Tissue Services staff and also the Band 7 Mortuary Quality Lead. Tissue Services falls within Cellular Pathology and is responsible for managing and ensuring Human Tissue Authority (HTA) compliance for Human Applications. This ensures the Trust meets HTA licensing standards with robust quality systems. Responsibilities include ensuring support for ordering, receipt, disposal, storage and traceability for all human and human derived products for clinical transplantation. HTA Licensed activities are predominately across CDG9/10 (theatres and clinical haematology) at QEHB and relate to procurement, testing, storage, distribution and export of a vastly wide range of tissue and cell types. These include: Skin/Burns, Vessels (Including cardiothoracic and iliac), Stem Cells, Bone, Tendon and Ligament, Nerve, Haematopoietic, Allografts.
As an Operations Manager within Cellular Pathology, you will also be part of a wider operational management team and also be involved with major projects such as 1). implementation of new IT Laboratory Information Management Systems, 2). Digital Pathology 3). Validation/verification of new supplier equipment and lean work processes.
Main duties of the job
Extensive experience of UKAS ISO15189, HTA Human Applications or PM License, compliance audits, root cause analysis, and quality management systems are a requirement.
*The post holder is the Tissue Services Lead advising clinical staff in Burns/theatres/liver and other clinical staff.
*Support, train and advise clinical teams, HTA Persons Designated on HTA Human Applications compliance. Work with Governance on risks, regulatory visits, escalations, and incident actions. Support the HTA Designated Individual in ensuring compliance.
*Manage the small operational Tissue Services team with HTA compliance and audits.
*Manage budgets, contracts and recharges with Finance and service users. Manage human tissue stock and storage to meet clinical and HTA Human Application requirements. Liaise with suppliers, Procurement and UHB Contracts.
*Manage and support the Band 7 Mortuary Quality Lead in continuous improvement of mortuary systems and dignified care of deceased patients.
*Manage another section or Cell Path or project dependent upon service needs and skill set.

A learning contract may be considered where there is extensive, relevant, high level HTA/UKAS audit/quality management experience within the application.
