Job summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Health Advising team at Umbrella Sexual Health. We are a looking for a motivated conscientious individual who can communicate effectively with patients and staff members.
You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service and work within the Umbrella sites throughout Birmingham & Solihull. The applicant should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in sexual health; experience is desired although not essential as training will be given.
The post holder will support the Health Advising team and SAFE Project to deliver a high quality Sexual Health service. This includes conducting follow up of sexual partners of patients with a positive diagnosis to ensure the spread of infection is minimised. Close working with clinicians to provide an effective and good quality service to Sexual Health patients. Being responsible for providing a wide range of clerical and clinical support to the Health Advising team and SAFE project, to facilitate smooth, efficient and confidential patient pathways.
The post requires administrative work and clinical support to the Health Advising team including sexual health screening, safer sex information, results notification, updating spreadsheets and databases and responding to patient and colleague enquiries. Working co-operatively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with Umbrella Health Advising.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will support the Health Adviser Team/SAFE Project to work both in a clinical setting and carry out administrative duties.
Administrative duties include
*Data entry
*Booking appointments via the computerised system and over the telephone, by letter or text.
*Manage the telephone and online helpline providing advice and information within the boundaries of the role.
*Audit outcomes of relevant policies (such as DNA and Recall) to demonstrate their success making recommendations from findings and supporting their implementation.
*Recognise when situations need to be escalated to a senior colleague eg safeguarding.
*Communicate sensitively maintaining confidentiality.
*Multitask and prioritise workload.
Clinical duties include
*Measure, monitor and record patients' vital signs reporting adverse signs/results immediately to a qualified clinician.
*Venepuncture
*Providing sexual health testing in outreach settings to the sex working client group
*Conducting follow up from partner notification conducted by Health Advisors
*To stress the importance of medical treatment and follow up partner(s) of index patients.
*Authorise negative/positive results and inform patients providing harm reduction advice and information within the boundaries of the role.
*Recall high risk patients who have failed to attend their appointments, encouraging engagement.
*Liaise with Health Advisers in other GUM settings and exchange relevant information to facilitate partner notification.
