This is an exciting time for UHB at Solihull Hospital, the new elective hub will see an extra 11,500 operations every year, a new surgical ward and expansion to our support services and departments. Demand on our front door at Heartlands Hospital continues and with that our teams need to expand to ensure we best support those patients that rely on us.

We are now inviting applications for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join the Solihull or Heartlands Pharmacy team to be based within our Minor Injuries Unit (Solihull) or Emergency Department (Heartlands). There is one full-time position based at Solihull Hospital and one full-time position based at Heartlands Hospital.

We can offer a Band 2 Pharmacy Technical Officer role, supporting you to develop the core competencies needed to carry out the full range of duties through work experience and mentorship. This will result in the completion of NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills and on the job/tailored training activities.

Progression to Band 3 will follow the successful completion of all training and sign off on all of the specific job responsibilities -- likely to take around 12 months. With two development opportunities available there is no better time to join us.

Main duties of the job

Success in this role will see a need for flexibility and being comfortable with changes in routine, responding to the needs of the service by providing medicines management support to our Minor Injuries Unit (Solihull) or Emergency Department (Heartlands).

You will be involved in the organising stock, working with the multi-disciplinary team, and general Pharmacy duties. This role would suit someone who is committed to providing high quality patient safety focused care whilst utilising excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work within a large team.

Your role will involve:

* Stock control

* Reviewing stock lists

* Organising the medication cabinets

* Reception and telephones duties

* Date checking

* Supporting local audits within the department

* Working within a large multi-disciplinary team

* Supporting the training and supervision of other support staff

* Dispensing for in and out-patients

* Participating in late nights, weekends, and bank holidays
