Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in terms of two full time, permanent Band 4 Ophthalmic Technician posts at the internationally regarded Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Previous experience working in ophthalmology or healthcare is advantageous, but training will be provided making this a fantastic opportunity for individuals looking to take on a new career within ophthalmology.

The successful applicants will work alongside a dedicated and friendly team of Technicians, Consultant Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists, Optometrists and ophthalmic trained Nursing staff in a vibrant and forward-looking department.

CPD is actively promoted within the department and training and educational opportunities will be made available to post-holders.

This is a chance to join a dynamic department within a growing field. The post will be based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham but some cross site working may be required.

Main duties of the job

The technician team work in glaucoma, medical retina and neuro-ophthalmology clinics where they have a vital role providing diagnostic support to medical, nursing and allied health professional colleagues. They are responsible for undertaking a variety of clinical examinations including automated visual field testing, ocular coherence tomography, optos wide field imaging and visual acuity assessment.

Applicants need to have excellent communication skills, a caring nature and thrive working in a busy department with an interesting and varied caseload.
