Job summary

Band 6-7 development post, Band 7 OT post.

Are you an experienced Band 6 OT looking to take that next step into a band 7 post looking for a new challenge whilst continuing to develop your clinical experience and leadership skills within stroke therapy.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the development of a band 7 post within the Stroke and Neuro Team at Heartlands Hospital.

You will be working closely with the existing specialist OT within the Acute Stroke team and the physiotherapy team. There is a robust MDT within the stroke service and strong links with the Community stroke ESD teams.

This is an ideal opportunity if you have clinical interest in Stroke and Neurology and a strong motivation to develop skills and expertise and provide patient centred, evidenced based therapy within the stroke service.

You will need good clinical skills, a flexible approach; including excellent team working, organisational and time management skills. Evidence of prior leadership would be beneficial to support the role.

You will join our dynamic team of Therapists who strive towards holistic recovery.

Training and support will be provided by experienced Therapists already working in each speciality field with the focus on developing and maximising the potential and skills of the successful candidate via in house and funded courses.

Main duties of the job

*To take responsibility for and provide Occupational Therapy leadership within the inpatient stroke and neurology team at BHH, working in collaboration with other UHB sites

*To undertake the specialist occupational therapy role in leading, planning, coordinating and delivering the inpatient OT service including neurology and working alongside the Band 7 Physiotherapist in Stroke & Neurology

*To take a major role in the specialist occupational therapy intervention as part of the team and wider MDT, assessing and treating own caseload of patients who may have complex neurological presentations, and support the occupational therapists in the implementation of treatment plans for neuro and stroke clients.

*To have specific skills in specialist seating & positioning and a broad understanding of the cognitive impact to patients, applying specialist assessment skills as required. Training and development opportunities will be available.

To support with the coordination and development of the provision of an effective and efficient service for Neurological and Stroke clients within the East Birmingham area.
