Job summary
The IMD service consists of a multidisciplinary team consists metabolic consultants, dieticians and nurse specialists and administration staffs.
The main responsibilities are to help identify IMD patients eligible to take part in a range of studies and to provide information and support for IMD patients involved in research studies. In some studies, this may involve the post-holder ensuring that service users' care and treatment, assessment, follow-up and data collection are coordinated according to the appropriate study protocols. This will involve close liaison with the clinical team, welcome research facilities, rare disease unit, diagnostic facilities, as well as with appropriate Research & Development Departments, sponsor, and study monitors. Furthermore, the post-holder will be expected to assist in setting up research study , submissions to appropriate parties including REC, IRAS and internal hospital research and SAC for approvals, develop study documentation, organising regular audit and research management, supporting monitoring visits and inspections and maintenance of research databases and records.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will support the clinical lead to develop, direct and coordinate an extensive service quality assurance (QA) and safety program in accordance with trust policy. Work closely with clinical team in developing IMD disease specific clinical guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOP). Ensures all clinical guidelines are updated periodically as per trust policy. Promote and support clinical audit amongst IMD team and champion the role of clinical audit in the NHS at the department level. Conducts both scheduled and unannounced audits of all project protocols and procedures and prepares reports of all findings and document corrective actions taken. Ensures all staffs have the appropriate training pertinent to the study they are involved. All the training logs have been regularly updated according to the policies and procedures of the Trust.
The post-holder will join the IMD team based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and will be managerially accountable to the Lead RD Nurse. They will work closely with the Principal and Co-investigators and other clinical and administrative members of the IMD teams.
