Job summary

Would you like to support excellent evidence-based patient care? We are looking for an enthusiastic Librarian to join our Library and Knowledge Service (LKS) Team at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

You will either be a qualified professional or be willing to work towards a funded MA in Librarianship or Information Science. An ideal post for a paraprofessional looking to qualify as a professional. If you are already a qualified librarian, you will start as a Band 5. If you have not gained a library qualification, you will start as a Band 4, but you would be funded to complete a MA/BA or High level apprenticeship and then gain pay Band 5 on completion.

QE Hospital provides a range of outpatient, inpatient and emergency services to its local community. QE Hospital Library is located within the Education Centre of the Main Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to adopt excellent public relations and marketing skills, to promote UHB Library and Knowledge Service. You will also be confident in literature searching, as well as, delivering information skills training and current awareness services. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills in addition to extensive online and digital skills. Other duties will include answering enquiries, counter duties, cataloguing and classifying and ordering stock. Previous library experience is therefore essential.

The new post-holder will have the opportunity to network with other local library colleagues within the Trust as well as the 20 libraries within the BASE patch [covering Birmingham, Solihull and the Black Country]. They will also be collaboration with the new Midlands wide HeLM consortium.

Must have the right to work in the UK.

Support will also be provided to enable progression with CILIP Chartership.
