Job summary
The healthcare science cardiac practitioner apprenticeship is suited to those who are keenly interested in the welfare of others and have a caring attitude to other people, with an interest in science.
We are looking for people who can put the patient's needs before their own, be honest, friendly and have a professional attitude to work. The work will be based in a busy cardiology department; therefore, will suit individuals who like to deal with a variety of tasks.
You will be part of a structured programme with block release at the University of Wolverhampton to complete the academic side of your training (BSc Hons). You will have support around you, but you must also be able to recognise and ask when you need help and guidance from colleagues.
Punctuality and reliability in attending workplace and university are essential attributes.
Throughout the program you will learn an array of cardiology diagnostic tests, including ECG's, Ambulatory monitoring, exercise testing as well as working in the invasive cath labs.
Main duties of the job
The programme aims to develop competent Healthcare Science Assistants who can support healthcare science associates, practitioners, clinical scientists and others in a variety of areas of healthcare science.
A Cardiac Practitioner Apprentice (CPA) performs a range of routine tasks within a defined healthcare science area under supervision.
A CPA may be required to update healthcare science information systems for example patient test requests, records or may undertake reception area duties, receive and tissue samples or products.
The apprenticeship will be undertaken in collaboration with a chosen provider. There will be classroom sessions and work based assessment which contributes to the learning element of the programme. Apprentices will complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate their learning and skills in practice in accordance with the apprenticeship framework.
During the apprenticeship, you will be required to:
*Attend classroom sessions and work placements as set out in the training programme.
*Complete and pass appropriate units to the required breadth and depth of underpinning knowledge.
*Gain practical understanding and experience over range of routine healthcare science duties acquired through job training and induction.
*Gain practical knowledge and experience in a healthcare science specialism.
