Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Health Advisor team and lead nurse for sexual health and other members of the MDT within HIV services with the provision of a high-quality sexual health service for patients living with HIV.
This post will provide support to the Department and will be a point of contact for patient. The role will include giving positive results and managing the patient's advice line, phlebotomy and chaperoning for patients attending with symptoms.
This is a full-time post over five days.
Main duties of the job
*To give positive and negative results for bacterial and viral sexually transmitted infections excluding HIV) to patients via the telephone and arrange follow up in clinic. This will include managing the call and recall for research patients diagnosing positive with an STI where relevant to research protocols.
*To perform and interpret common screening and diagnostic tests/procedures, for example.
oPregnancy testing
oVenepuncture (blood sample collection)
oPoint of care testing for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C
oSTI screening for asymptomatic patients as requested by clinicians.
oOther specimens as directed and following appropriate training.
*To chaperone the sexual health nurse and sexual health advisers during intimate examinations
*To set up clinical rooms for contraception and sexual health procedures and to safely manage specimen transit to the lab.
*Support individuals' patient's rights and choices.
*To acknowledge individual's personal beliefs and identity
*To promote anti-discriminatory practice
*To assist in minimising disruptive situations and contribute to the protection of individuals at
risk of abusive behaviour.
*To provide health promotional material to clients and their partners during the screening process
*To take responsibility for patient information leaflets and displays within area of work.
