Job summary

The Research, Development & Innovation Finance Team at UHBFT are looking for an ambitious, highly motivated, professional individual who thrives on a challenge. Experience within an NHS financial management and research environment is desirable in this fast paced dynamic Team. The ability to work in a team, meet deadlines and have good communication skills is paramount for this role. Experience of MS Office packages and working with computerised ledger systems is also required for this role.

The post is based at Regent Court, George Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 1NU and you will be required to travel across sites at certain points.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of a team offering tailored financial business support to a number of research specialties on a daily basis. The role will involve providing financial management leadership, advice and budgetary support to the R&D Management Team, Research Application Support Team, and Research Infrastructure Grant Management Teams. You will also be involved in grant costing, grant finance management, forecasting, advising budget holders based within the Trust and outside organisations, budget setting and month end. The post holder will be required to meet with budget managers on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Essential

  • * Fully Qualified member of CCAB or If you meet all the requirements of the person specification for this role and are currently a CCAB finalist,
  • * Completion of evidenced ongoing Continuing Professional Development in accordance with guidelines produced by the relevant Professional Accountancy Body.

Experience

Essential

  • * Significant relevant experience in a financial management role in a large and complex organisation, including experience in the financial elements of business planning and investment appraisal techniques.
  • * Up to date knowledge of Financial and Management Accounting including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)

Desirable

  • * Good working knowledge or a proven interest in the NHS including understanding of key targets and the performance management framework
  • * An understanding of specific NHS policies for example Payment by Results, Patient Choice and Foundation Trusts.
