An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Staff nurse to join W727, a Cardiac Surgery ward. It is an exciting opportunity for existing and newly qualified staff nurses to join our fast-paced surgical ward.

This role is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site, at QEH we strive to provide excellent care to our patients. To enable us to do this we nurture, develop and value our staff.

We are currently recruiting for band 5 nurses to work on our cardiac surgical ward, to care for patients both pre and post op cardiac surgery. On ward 727 the patients we care for are aged 18 and over pre and post cardiac bypass surgery, valve replacements, aortic surgery, and congenital heart surgeries. On Ward 727 we also care for patients with ventricular assist device systems and heart and lung transplant patients.

This fast-paced cardiac ward will give you the opportunity to develop your clinical knowledge, leadership and management skills and gain competencies in cardiac speciality nursing including care of chest drains, cardiac pacing, complex wound management, nerve blocks, epidurals, pain management and so much more. With the support of senior staff, advanced clinical practitioners, and critical care outreach, we aim to keep our nurses up to date with the latest practice, training and skills.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a nurse who is enthusiastic, positive, hard-working, and motivated to work in our friendly team in this fast-paced environment.

We have a divisional clinical education team who alongside supportive ward staff, advanced clinical practitioners and multidisciplinary teams will guide you in developing and advancing your skills and knowledge in caring for cardiac surgery patients as well as to develop your leadership skills.

Staff will receive a comprehensive induction, preceptorship, supervised practice, and specialist in house study days supported by the clinical education team. There is opportunity to work alongside advanced clinical practitioners and clinical nurse specialists which help to widen your clinical experience.
